Peace, peace, peace. Positive energy activates consistent innovation. You now tap in with Supreme Model Podcast over your form and the spy. And the whole thing created Supreme Mother, the self-made God, Supreme Energy, Supreme Being, Supreme Thoughts, Supreme Heart, Supreme Bot, Supreme Model Podcast. Let's build. It's a special one right here in season two, episode 14, titled Sisterhood. Two exceptionally special guests in a build. I'm gonna let them introduce themselves. Who's all it is?
SPEAKER_01Hey, what's up? I'm Tanika, spiritually known as Queen Tahira.
SPEAKER_00And I'm Ashley. Tanika's sister.
SPEAKER_01We are sisters.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. Well I say sisterhood. So sisterhood is a bond of being a sister, feeling of shared support among women or an organization of women with common goals. Also, the personal relationship between female siblings, a deeper bond of unity, shared support and solidarity. Sisterhood is unconditional support, safe community, and shared strength. The etymology of sisterhood is a state of being or having a sister. So with that being said, let's go. So how y'all doing today? Y'all good? I'm great. How are you? That's what's up. I'm good. I'm excited. I feel like I'm getting interviewed. Um, so I don't know who's gonna go first. Y'all can figure that out. So first, what does being a sister mean to you personally?
SPEAKER_01I feel like sisterhood is a union between two individuals who love and care deeply for one another, and it doesn't always have to mean that you are blood related, but Ashley and I share the blood, same exact bloodline. We have the same mom, the same dad, and we are very close, and I just feel like it's just a special bond between two individuals that you know happen to either be blood sisters or sisters by spirit. That's my take on that.
SPEAKER_00I agree. I was just about to say something kind of similar, especially the part when you said don't necessarily have to be blood, because you do how can I put it? You do choose, like you know, to have a relationship and build a bond, and you know, just because you regardless blood don't really mean, you know.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. That you're gonna actually have those sisters and there's right, right, right. Absolutely. I might have to bring y'all alone for that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because that's like a whole thing, but yeah, right, definitely.
SPEAKER_03There's a difference between family and relatives, guys.
SPEAKER_00For sure, for sure. That's why I was getting even when you are sister. Because even though you're my sister, I really consider you my family too, but you know, like but not just not because we blunt, though.
SPEAKER_01No, we worked on that, right? Yeah, that's real. So that's how I know it's real, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Well, so what is your favorite memory with your sister?
SPEAKER_01Yes, then you go first this time. Give me time to think. It's so many though.
SPEAKER_00Why is this hard? Because it's always on the spot.
SPEAKER_03That's all.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's a lot of them though.
SPEAKER_00It is a lot, but I would say when we was in like Alabama, and like when you was like when you had the kids for me too. Me being like there. You know, at all the births and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01That's funny. I was gonna say similar. Yeah. So that's I have a couple favorite memories, but I'd have to say, like, she's like one of my like really deep fond memories is her being present, like, I was definitely gonna say the same thing, present at each one of my children's births, and just like growing up together, like like really, like, literally growing up together, like we've been through so much together. So, like, just from young to now, like we've just grown together. So, I I definitely just say, like, all those memories compounded of us just being like little and our teenage years. It's just too many to say there's like a real huge favorite, but I'd have to say for sure. Teenage years was lit. Like being at all the birth, being present at all.
SPEAKER_03Shout out to the Cubs, Tal, Bri and U. Baby B. Baby. So, how do y'all spend time together? What was uh in in whatever aspect, whether it be going out or just sitting around the neighborhood or something.
SPEAKER_00You mean like as an adult or like yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, we spend most of our time at work. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. As adults, we work, we work together at the same job. Right. So I would say that's where most of the time is spent.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, we older now. So we have to work, I'll be flying at the other.
SPEAKER_01Because to be honest, like out before working together, I wouldn't say like we talk a lot.
SPEAKER_00We talk on the phone a lot, so it's mostly like late nights or something, but like gathering. I'm like a loner.
SPEAKER_01So most of that time is spirit spent at work. For real. And then like when you go to stuff like that. Like when I we see each other every day. So like any type of like activity like the children have. Oh, yeah, stuff like that. Any type of I we see each other so much, so I just think Yeah, that's one, yeah, like nowadays, something going on with the kids, gatherings, family.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. Um what would you say was the silliest fight y'all ever had?
SPEAKER_00I feel like all of them, but you remember that time when it was like a last piece of was it a hamburger or something? And we both tried to get it at the same time? No, on Marshall Street, and we was fighting over it, and then I took it off the stove and threw it. I was like, no money. I was like, I can't get it.
SPEAKER_01It was in the one it was in the one when we were like younger outside.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that was crazy.
SPEAKER_01I think I don't even remember exactly what you did, but I feel like I dragged it for no reason, probably because people was outside. Yeah, that was silly.
SPEAKER_03Okay, well, take an account. But y'all were young at this around.
SPEAKER_01That time we were young at both times because I was young, I was like 13, I think. But that's the same.
SPEAKER_00I probably was like 17.
SPEAKER_01And I was probably 18.
SPEAKER_00Didn't Natalia was born? I don't remember. Probably she could have been. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Like we was we calmed down with the fighting by then, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it probably wasn't yet. Probably was. So I probably was like 16.
SPEAKER_01I was probably like 18.
SPEAKER_03Right, okay. Oh, so y'all two years apart.
SPEAKER_01We're 14 months apart.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow. Oh, your numbers. I'll not actually you not know because you're gonna go down to the team.
SPEAKER_01Because two years is is a lot more than that. You always be saying we 14 months apart. Because that's only a year and four months. See, they that's it. That we really not that far apart. We almost was those, what do you call the twins? Yeah, we was almost that. If I would have came, you would have came four months earlier.
SPEAKER_03Well, all right, that's what's up. Um so which one of your parents' rules did y'all hate the most growing up?
SPEAKER_01My dad. When we were living together, like before my mom and dad didn't know.
SPEAKER_00When we were little kids.
SPEAKER_01When we were younger, it was I hated his rules because he let us go. He didn't want nobody, like we couldn't really go like over to somebody house.
SPEAKER_00I kind of understand it now, though.
SPEAKER_01Right. Now we talk about it. We couldn't like I would just remember like wanting to go like to the beach with the neighbors, he didn't want us doing that. Like a night at nobody's house. Our cousins couldn't spend a night.
SPEAKER_00Offer you something, don't take it, stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's real.
SPEAKER_00Those rules, but as an adult, I'll get it now.
SPEAKER_01I probably have some like probably all the same rules, actually. For the you know, like Nori. Right, the girls are older now, but like they have those same rules too. So yeah, I get it now. But I don't do you feel the same, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because after that, yeah, my dad was off the hook.
SPEAKER_01He didn't have no type of he didn't have no chill, and then I think when they after divorcing, it was the party showing.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I feel like we have to for a little while.
SPEAKER_01So it was kind of like whatever.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So dad, we didn't care about your rules. We didn't care about breaking them either, but shit. Type of dad I had, you would dare to break a rule because your ass would be broke.
SPEAKER_01Our dad wasn't, he never hit us, he didn't hit us, he only plucked us.
SPEAKER_03He was a universal soldier, yeah. He used to like plucked. Mom was hit her.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, grab us by one arm and just mom like didn't allow it. I'd be fine.
SPEAKER_00He I don't think he would have anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, probably wasn't really. He used to get her, like yeah, that was only plucked us, but them shits hurt. I remember them shit. Remember those two. Them shits hurt like hell.
SPEAKER_03Um the airplux used to be uh for turning around in church. You see two of them shits right here though, in the middle of our forest.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00You probably got plucked more than this.
SPEAKER_03Probably so if y'all were on a reality TV show together, which one would it be? Well, that's a good question.
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to think because it's like reality.
SPEAKER_03Wouldn't be loved our neighbors.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm gonna say I feel like all the reality shows now suck. But if we go back to like some vintage reality shows, I would say Bad Girls Club.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I agree.
SPEAKER_00That would have been fitting. Like back then.
SPEAKER_01Because I don't even really watch reality TV.
SPEAKER_00Like I'm talking about the vintage bad case, vintage badge. Not the one today. Not that one. They still had like, you know.
SPEAKER_01Because it was, I don't think it was that staged back then. I don't even know if it was stage.
SPEAKER_00It ain't staged now, but I feel like it's real ghetto now. All they do is fight. They had they fought a little bit there, but they also had like things they were doing, actually.
SPEAKER_03Possible things they have.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the throwback era.
SPEAKER_03So, what foods did y'all pretend to like as a child to avoid getting in trouble?
SPEAKER_00I didn't pretend like a damn thing. Yeah, I she was the last one at the table.
SPEAKER_03That's how my sister was.
SPEAKER_01Ashley was a rebel without a cause. Two hours at the table if she had. I ain't care.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't eating it. And I still don't.
SPEAKER_01I pretended to like collard greens. I didn't like collard greens until I was in my 20s. I never liked them. Oh, wow. But when as a kid, I remember, I can remember the taste, remember how you eat that. Oh god, back then. But definitely collard greens was probably the one that sticks out the most. I hated them. And we couldn't not, we had to, well, unless you want to be like Ashley, you had to eat on the bottom.
SPEAKER_03So what is so if you didn't, then what?
SPEAKER_00Like you gotta sit there, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Until it's gone. But you're not eating it because you don't like it.
SPEAKER_00So it wasn't then I eventually got let up, like they let me up.
SPEAKER_01But it would be hours and hours.
SPEAKER_00Um I was at all.
SPEAKER_01So I would rather just put the time in, yeah, yeah, stuff it down my throat. Right. Yeah. And gag. I ain't mind.
SPEAKER_00He was just I mind.
SPEAKER_01I ain't eating that shit.
SPEAKER_03Do you feel like do y'all feel like y'all parents treated you differently?
SPEAKER_01Yes. Like growing up, I felt that way. I can't say like I felt like that. Like, like my dad, I know that it wasn't like he didn't treat us differently, per se, like I feel like okay, he was there for a vast majority of our lives, like very involved. Even after they divorced, he was still there. But then once I got pregnant with my first daughter, he literally wrote me off for two years. Exactly. I'll never forget it. It's very vivid in my memory. I've forgiven him, but I just it's hard to forget because of how close we were, I would say. And then just like I told him I was pregnant, and that was like the last day I spoke to him for like two years, and he just called me one time. I was like two. And I feel like they, like Ashley, probably she's good at like at like making relationships work, if that makes sense. Like, like me, I'm not as like forthcoming with calling as much and stuff. I feel like you're more intentional with that. I'm not saying I'm not intentional, but like if it's not reciprocated, it's I'm easier to fall back. Like it feels like it's forced to meet back. Where it's not, it's probably not forced to you, and you understand like some people might not pick up the phone as much, so you'll pick it up instead. I'm just more so like, oh well, you know, but I definitely say with my dad, it wasn't like that. They kind of just grew closer because she chose to um but with my mom, I definitely feel like, and I'll then told Ashley that I always felt like she favored her. I really don't understand that's gonna help. I felt like she favored her for sure. But as an adult, like with like now that we're older and we've spoken about things, like I don't necessarily think that anymore. But when we were growing up, I felt that way for sure. 1000%.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm not close to my dad. I just talk to him, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_01It does.
SPEAKER_00I just be talking to him. Like, you know what I mean? I'm close to his mother, like, you know what I mean? That's like, which is why I probably just yeah, no, I'll get that. You know, kinda didn't rate them off or whatever, like, you know.
SPEAKER_03Right, because it is a bond, it's like a binding tool. Yeah, it's your grandmother, right?
SPEAKER_00So I really feel like it was off the strength of her anyway, you know. So I'm not close to him. And as far as me feeling like I I feel like I was treated different by everybody, not necessarily my parents, though. Like, you know, I just feel like I was the black sheep. I mean, I was, but that's a different topic.
SPEAKER_03So do you think your upbringing changed who you are today?
SPEAKER_01Mine did. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Like, I definitely I always took I took key components like from my upbringing, good and bad, to not like kind of break the generational curses and things like that from like a lot of the ways that you know we were brought up, like a lot of the knowledge that wasn't instilled about a lot of things. Like, I definitely know I broke that with my girls, and just a lot of different other things in a way, like, you know, like we were raised, I've tried, you know, well, broken that with raising my daughters. Right. So it definitely has shaped me and made me better. And yeah, I definitely say it did impact.
SPEAKER_03So you're parents, so you feel like you have different parenting styles compared to your parents.
SPEAKER_01Oh, absolutely. I definitely have different parenting styles. There is absolute, there was absolutely, I haven't raised my children on any kind of corporal punishment whatsoever. Like there was no belts, no, like I've probably slapped somebody. We all know who that was. I won't say her name. But I've never like hit anyone with like an object, like objects that like should not be used hangers, shoes, extension cords, any of that. And I didn't want to instill fear into my children using those kind of punishments because I was scared to speak about things that I shouldn't have been scared to speak about. You are absolutely, absolutely things that you can go to your parents about, like sex, oh stuff like that.
SPEAKER_00I thought you meant like speaking up and anything, speaking up too.
SPEAKER_01I was scared to speak up. I was scared to speak up. Um scared, like I didn't like just I just felt like nothing was ever, nobody like really intentionally cared to ask questions that needed to be asked and things like that.
SPEAKER_03How you felt about things, towards things, things like that.
SPEAKER_01And so I've changed literally structured that whole layout for mine, like you know, so it definitely is different.
SPEAKER_03No, I could get that, but oh, because they they say that um that corporal punishment stems from slavery, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I believe especially when you especially when you're people from the south.
SPEAKER_01And then a lot of people like they really say yes, sir. Yeah, yes. Yeah, my I literally I couldn't wait to not have my children say that to me. I literally hated saying that. It felt weird, and it was a like like you had to say it. You know, like and you would get in trouble if you didn't. So, like I definitely didn't want that for my children.
SPEAKER_03Like you said, maybe south and just that survival mode we was in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was always like people that it was so weird, and I felt it was weird even as a child.
SPEAKER_00I felt I always let it be known. Wait, I don't know. I feel like I was always breaking like generational curses and stuff, because I was never, ever, ever like I felt like I was always standing up for myself, like you know, being called the crazy one or the one that talked back when I'm 39 today and I still stand on everything that I ever said, ever did. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Right, right. That's how you end up being a black sheep.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, but that's how you crazy says that to be like do that in the world though, because it's inspiring. Don't want like when I look back at how like Yeah, I wasn't going like whatever.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna deal with my consequences right here, right now. But this is how it is for me, you know.
SPEAKER_03I could relate to both.
SPEAKER_00I feel like parents or whoever your elders are, whoever your guardians are, they just feel like they could disrespect you. And that's not how that works, right? You know, I feel like everybody deserves respect and stuff like that. That's true.
SPEAKER_03And that's a condition for their parents too.
SPEAKER_00You know what I mean? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I think it's oh yeah, for us to have grace, you know what I mean? Because I've had grudges too. I definitely got grace now. I was just about to I always had grace.
SPEAKER_00That's the crazy part. I've always feel like I had grace because I feel like I'ma understand the birds of too. And especially as I get older, and you know, uh you see that life be life, and you kind of understand or why this why they act the way they act, you know. How is their mother? How is their father and stuff like that? Right, right.
SPEAKER_01But that's why I don't charge it to anyone's heart. Like I just decided I would just make mental notes as I've gotten older and older and older and like and do things differently, but I've never like hated my love my mom to death. I've always loved her to death, always had a great real relationship. I didn't charge none to nobody heart. I always just think about like, well, what was she taught or not taught? And did she choose? You know, maybe she just couldn't or didn't know how to break the curses and things like that.
SPEAKER_03So if y'all two had to swap lives for a week, what's the first thing you would change about each other? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You could go first. If I had to swap a lot with Ashley for a week.
SPEAKER_01What would you change? I probably would come out more. Or like yeah, like just be a partner. Like, cause she's so like distant.
SPEAKER_00Isolated. Sorry.
SPEAKER_01It's not distant. It's isolated. Yeah. She's so isolated, and I would like just come on out, like participate in things more. I'm ready to hear what you got to say.
SPEAKER_00It's like a couple of things. But like right now, what right now the first thing that popped in my mind, I would say rest. And um like what's another one? I'm trying to think. Um I feel like being too nice about stuff sometimes. So kind of be like more like vocal about stuff. And it's like don't wait until you like you know what I'm saying? Like until like it's boiling over, like say it right then and there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like be stern. Sometimes I feel like we're stern with things after our emotions are striped versus you know actually logically thinking about it first and then trying to remove your emotions from it and then then say it. You know what I'm saying? But then your emotions are gonna come and be like, oh, I I know you. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Should I apologize? Did I say it too harsh? So, um, but that's good though. All right, I thought that was gonna be a little challenge for y'all, but it wasn't. Um okay. So if you had to describe yourself as an animal, what would it be and why?
SPEAKER_01I'm sticking with the mama bear. And that's in and I already explained in motherhood why, but like, you know, mama bears very protected, you know, they protect their young, like very intentional with growing them up and staying with them for two years, if I'm not mistaken. And I believe, I want to say, don't quote me, that they stay with their young longer than almost any animal does.
SPEAKER_03Besides lions. So the lioness prize, they stay together.
SPEAKER_01And they just are very loving and caring, and that's my nature, even outside of my children. I really love and care and have compassion for the people that I love and care about, and even others that I don't. Like, that's probably why I'm in the field that I'm in, you know, of work or in the work that I'm in.
SPEAKER_03That motherhood episode, y'all, season one, episode nine. What's ever speaking on being a mother? So, what's up, Ash? What you got?
SPEAKER_00I really can't think of nothing.
SPEAKER_01Like, what kind of animal?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like I can't think of nothing. You would be, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Welcome back.
SPEAKER_00I was trying to think of a I don't know. I was trying to think of like something deep.
SPEAKER_01Because I feel like I'm just like maybe it's not an animal, maybe it's something like a phoenix or something like that.
SPEAKER_00I was going towards like, you know, yeah, over there in Egypt. It don't have it could be. I was kind of thinking like that, like a phoenix or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because you're I already know why, too. Go ahead though, and say I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I rose from plenty of ashes. Like I didn't death and rebirth is a real thing for me. Like, you know, you don't gotta like really die to die and just coming back.
SPEAKER_03Right, the old one, yeah. You know, things about yourself that it's not beneficial. Yeah. All right. Um, so what was the pettiest thing y'all ever thought about? The hamburger?
SPEAKER_00We fought about a lot of petty shit. I was just about to say to be honest, like I feel like everything had a fight about except one fight I feel like wasn't petty, but I won't elaborate long ago, but every other fight I could honestly say was stupid and petty.
SPEAKER_01It was really stupid and petty. Shows y'all growth though. For sure. Like there was nothing I could say that was worth fighting your own sister over. And fighting like let's say fight.
SPEAKER_03Let's yeah, let's define a fight, though.
SPEAKER_01No, we used to physical physical. Yeah, right. Like we didn't even argue. Argue and then anything.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01With and throwing things and like really a fight. Like as if that wasn't even my sister on the street. You know what I mean? The same way I will fight somebody on the street.
SPEAKER_03Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay. That's deep.
SPEAKER_01And I could say that I wish we never had those kind of fights, but there was lessons in that. You know what I mean? These lessons in everything. Cause now you would never even, I would never even think that how we are now that we would ever have fights like that growing up. That's good.
SPEAKER_03That means y'all grew a lot as interesting.
SPEAKER_01And I think it probably stemmed from stuff. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Like probably just for you it probably stemmed from stuff.
SPEAKER_01Like, well, obviously I thought mom favors you.
SPEAKER_00Because I ain't used to want to. I used to hold back a lot. But you know, you gotta defend yourself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um I just yeah, I could honestly feel now that I'm grown and can take account, I for sure feel like it definitely came from anger with probably not even Ashley. Just probably just, you know, things I probably wished were, you know, just anything really. I get that. I get that.
SPEAKER_03Um so what's a skill that you or ability either one of you feel like you secretly that you possess that nobody in your family appreciates or respects?
SPEAKER_01A skill that I possess.
SPEAKER_00Your family don't I'm very much in tune. Like I very much could read and pick up on people's emotions and you know what I'm saying? I'm very, very deep in my spirituality. And honestly, I feel like the people who love me and be that be around like Tanika, you know, certain people do like respect them and stuff. The rest of them don't really know me to even have an opinion, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_03I mean, they always will.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, like so. But don't know what's about an opinion. Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_01Um I feel like lately, because of my discovery just of and tapping into my spirituality, and I've changed so much, like in so many ways. I definitely feel like now people don't care for me or care to like build relationships with me or fix them like they used to because my voice is different now. And like you understand it. Okay, so and I just feel like that's probably why I've lost relationships and gained relationships and just they I don't I feel like it is sort of a disrespect with certain things that you know just done happened, that didn't transpired and things like that, but yeah, I definitely have to say becoming this Tanika, who I am now, is definitely ruffling feathers and making people like different, I guess. Nah, I couldn't call it.
SPEAKER_00I literally feel like I've always been the same, but not yeah, not you though. But no, I'm just saying how you were saying, like, to think like, but it's just like like you took the time out to get to know me for real. Like, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, and like other people, they still stuck over there. And I feel like but I've always literally been the way that literally because I feel like I was a pushover, a freaking ass kisser.
SPEAKER_01I was all that. Like, I'm the first person to say sorry all the time. I'm the first person to to just reach back out. I'm not doing none of that shit anymore. It's all wrapped up. Like I changed so much, just becoming and like evolving that like, and I don't know if people can handle that anymore. Because no, like, you know, it's just different. Is and I don't like it at first it felt a little bit a little bit lonely, but I don't care about that anymore. You know what I mean? Because the people who are supposed to be there here with me are, and the ones that aren't aren't. And I don't really care.
SPEAKER_03Right, and once you elevate, you're gonna lose, you're gonna lose the people that is not for that new you. So that just comes with it. Yeah. And then it just takes time. Like you're gonna be rebuilding it a lot, just adjusting to your your newer self. You know what I'm saying? So if you could describe one another in three words to a stranger, what would it be?
SPEAKER_01Um, just like three words.
SPEAKER_00I would say great mom. Absolutely, loving and strong willed.
SPEAKER_01For her, I'd have to say resilient the epitome of the definition of being an aunt. That's what's in the whole like meaning of it times a million. Say that and I'd have to say her c the compassion she has for others, including herself. And that's something I didn't realize she had until I got to know her for real. But it's so big. Her hair always been the same. I just had to tap into that, like to understand who she who she was. True.
SPEAKER_00And I think I think it's because I have like a outer exterior or what you call it. I don't know. I wouldn't even say like a I do kind of got a strong personality, right? Yeah. People just most people probably just don't, they don't take the time out to like, you know, get to know me from plus I'm not really like a people's person. It's so crazy that I got like the biggest heart stuff, and I'm still really not like a people's person. I feel like standoff stuff. Right. People it probably rub people the wrong way and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01And I feel like people don't consider what people been through ever. Like people who aren't like us.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01It I feel like it takes a type of person to like really consider stuff about other people.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01And then I feel like you have to experience it too. You gotta go to those stands. But if you do, I think you could want to know and learn about another person.
SPEAKER_03You know, and I also think it's of course I always say like you can't um you can't give what you don't have. So you know what I mean? Like if you have that understanding of a walk of life that someone's been through, then it's easier to have a you know what I mean, an understanding of who that person is. So what childhood memory do you think about the most? If any.
SPEAKER_01I'd have to go back to Alabama again. But both, you know, like I'd have to go back to Alabama just being like with my sister, my cousins, just being a child and not really worrying about like and having the same type of worries or fears or not having any type of, you know, anything really. You just carefree, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Living life.
SPEAKER_01And it was just so much fun down there, like being with my cousins and my sister, playing and riding bikes all willy-nilly free in the street, like barefoot, and just yeah. I'd have to go back to Alabama for sure. We were little.
SPEAKER_00I would say Alabama too, but specifically, like for me, like a lot of memories is like in Utah.
SPEAKER_01And I was gonna say Utah too.
SPEAKER_00Because we learned a lot there too. Like both parts out, just like we learned a lot, like how to swim. We used to go fishing, like we used to be real kids. Culture. You know what I'm saying? Like we learned, we actually learned a lot there, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I loved both.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alabama Alabama, being at my grandmother's house on my dad's side, and being with my family.
SPEAKER_03So mom's side. You did speak of feeling like Mama Cherry. Peace to you. She felt like she favored Ashley more. So did that make you feel like an outsider?
SPEAKER_01I almost I didn't feel like an outsider, no. I I don't think I felt like an outsider.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02I just say that again. Not good.
SPEAKER_01I just feel like I don't know, like like we would get in fights. We would the fights was the the main thing because always she started them. I feel like it would be on purpose. Like she would start them. And my mom took her side no matter what. Even if, even if she was wrong. Like, obviously, she don't know because she was working all the time. My brother was responsible for us. And let me tell you, he wasn't. He was in that game. We miss you down here. So, you know, and that's the only reason why. That's like, no, like that's part of it. Like the fights and just like she just you, you, like she was always sick and she I used to fake sick. I was not sick.
SPEAKER_00I'm not gonna tell my attention now. Don't get me removed. My stomach still messed up. That was like the only thing, but I used to drag it. That's how I got attention. I swear to God.
SPEAKER_01But see, I didn't know that. I used to fake it like you. We only 14 months apart.
SPEAKER_00You still make it. I used to fake like I was sick.
SPEAKER_03She told me that recently, man.
SPEAKER_00I used to fake like I was sick. I'm so serious. I was not sick.
SPEAKER_01And my mom always had her at the end.
SPEAKER_00Except for when I really used to get shrimp throwing stuff like that. But just how I used to complain about stuff throwing the ball in the sick. That was I used to punch cornflakes. Put them in the toilet. I swear to God. Everything I love, girl.
SPEAKER_01Did you Google that? No.
SPEAKER_00You know, Google ain't exist back then. I used to put like a little bit of red. I used to put like a little red cool lady.
SPEAKER_01I'd be like 12. Intelligent.
SPEAKER_00That's how I used to get attention.
SPEAKER_03So you spoke of being a black chief. What made you feel like that exactly?
SPEAKER_00Just always being left out, always being spoken down to because I used to stand up for myself and stuff like that. Like I got other sip certain siblings. I just feel like I ain't gonna go there. But you know, just being left out and I ain't I'm the one that ain't gonna be this and I ain't gonna be that, and I'm like none of that. Like, you know, I just truly feel like because I always used to stand up for myself. Everybody used to think I was crazy.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00For talking back or having the knowledge or beliefs. I just feel like, you know, we didn't have social media back then. So I always thought the same. I always believed in the same things. I guess people thought I was crazy. But you know, just when you stand up for yourself and you a rebel, you always gonna get singled out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. And you opinionated. Yeah. Still still to this day. So, what's a childhood tradition you wish y'all still had?
SPEAKER_00Do we have traditions? For real, for real.
SPEAKER_03Not nothing like I mean maybe like family.
SPEAKER_00Maybe just being certain days, maybe just being in the same household. Cause Bobby was there.
SPEAKER_01There, yeah. I was gonna say things that I probably wish we did as a family, like more like like sitting together at the table and eating.
SPEAKER_00How I do that in Connecticut.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, I think it was just us that used to sit there, like the There wasn't no real, like everybody, mom, dad talking and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we didn't do that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um so how did that what did that look like? Just the children at the table and then a passage from somewhere else?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I don't remember ever sitting around the table like as a family. And none of the in Alabama, in Connecticut, and New York, nowhere. You remember sitting? We always had a dining room table, but I don't remember sitting around it how watching it.
SPEAKER_00Like how, yeah, not like as just us like eating and stuff, talking about our day and all that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_01We didn't do that. Mm-mm. We ate like probably at the table or on the couch or wherever, but it wasn't like I have like some great memories of you know, just growing up being a kid, but I do not miss my childhood, I'm not gonna lie.
SPEAKER_00I don't miss it, do you? I kind of miss not being an adult. I was just about to say that. But other than that, like I don't really miss like my channel.
SPEAKER_01Like, like, like I would if I missed anything, it would probably be my like 13 to like 70. But I could I could I could agree that I probably don't I probably miss like not having so much responsibility and like great memories at times, but I don't but I don't really miss it either like in that way. I I wish a lot of things were different. Yeah. That's what I wish.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well I grew up kind of sitting at the table with my parents. Up until a certain time, but until my dad left, but then my mom still did the same thing. Like she still yeah, she still sat at the table with us. Um sitting in the living room in front of the TV was just never something we could do. It was it had to have been like a a church revival going on for that to happen. Like but um I think I think things like that help with um family time. I think it it you know it's a time where you can, you know, exchange thoughts, ask how you know a person's day was, and I think meals and food period just brings the culture together.
SPEAKER_00You would have been even more better back then because we didn't have like distractions, like cell phones to share.
SPEAKER_03That's true, that's true. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. And I think even now we'll still like with phones, being that you mentioned it, we'll be eating, but we'll have our phone in our hands.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. That's the one time I try when the girls and I are uh, you know, all of us, whatever, at the table. I tell them, no phones. We're not doing the phone. We're talking, we talking. We want to, you know, get to know what happened through all our experience.
SPEAKER_03For this experience. Right, be attentive to everything else. Yeah, respect it. That was something really intriguing that once I came into the site bar, I respected that you did. Like I've never been in any household or dated a woman that, whether she had children or not, that you know, didn't want the phone at the table like that, you know what I'm saying? So that that showed a lot. That really made me raise my eyebrows in a in a positive, intriguing way. Like, oh shit. Never thought that you know what I'm saying would be something that somebody actually thought about nowadays because everything is technology. So it's like, why not have dinner while we watch TV? This type shit. So So do you remember your parents fighting? If so, how did it affect y'all? And of course, you don't have to answer. I actually don't remember them fighting.
SPEAKER_00I feel like maybe they argue here and there, but we really know about a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if I want to say if they was fighting, it was definitely behind closed doors. I could honestly take my hat off. Because they never fought like in front of us for sure or anything like that. I can't say that I witnessed any type of domestic. Never. Never mind.
SPEAKER_00And that's and going back to why, like, I don't know. Like, I think that's kind of a reason why too. Like, I'm not really, I'm not c I wouldn't say I'm close to my dad, but I just know him. Like, I talk to him, he'd be calling me sometimes. I'll call him sometimes. Sometimes I'll text him, like, hey, how you doing? Whatever, whatever. But I think that may be why too. Because my mom did, like, she ain't tell us a lot of stuff until we was older. Like, but I you know, like when you were a kid, that could kind of affect you more if you know, kind of brainwash you a little bit.
SPEAKER_03But you don't understand, really.
SPEAKER_00Right. I just got a natural love for my dad, just like I got a natural love for my mom.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So what's something your parents did that y'all end up appreciating as you got older? Of course, when you just named one. Them having their relationship challenges and wasn't exposed. But I think a lot of children upbringing is fucked up through to that.
SPEAKER_01One thing my mother did that I respect wholeheartedly. She didn't bring no men around us. At all. I don't even know. Outside of my dad, Mr. Bill with nobody. Never seen no men. Ever. And I know she dated because she would say, I'm going. She wouldn't say like to her boyfriend house, but come on, we're 15. I know you probably going there. Right. But she never brought men around us ever. Like there was no in and out of no men at all. That's why I'm so like, you know what I mean? Like, that's why that's probably one of the, you know, one of the reasons, you know, when I speak to you about it, that I be like so like, mm-mm. No, like I would say that.
SPEAKER_00And she just always did her best. Like even when she didn't have it, she found a way.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, you know, or she tried. She didn't just, you know how she's.
SPEAKER_01And that's another reason why I don't charge anything to her heart. Like, like how I'll be saying, like, you we didn't have the best childhood. But she wasn't the mom that because there's moms, I know a few, who their chip children don't have much, but they out here looking like they got on freaking Gucci and You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Looking a Walmart life.
SPEAKER_01Living their best life while their children are over there not or just don't and just don't care about anything. Mom, she worked hard, she she held down multiple jobs. And I remember she didn't drive, so she either was busting it or walking to work. And she did her best, truly. Like, she wasn't out here buying games. She never smoked, never drank, never did any of that. Um so she was definitely, she was a great mom. She was a great mom. She just was quiet. She was quiet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I could say the same for my mom.
SPEAKER_01A little passive. A lot passive, though.
SPEAKER_03She didn't have no gods around. She got married after she gave dad the boot. Right. And um, he just was extra. But after that, she didn't she didn't rang a light around, never hurt of nobody. So. And she never talked crazy about my dad. I seen.
SPEAKER_01No, my mom never.
SPEAKER_03I seen the witness the craziness before.
SPEAKER_01Right. Like the thing, you know, because we have a little brother who he was created while my mom and dad was together. And she's never created, ever said or talked crazy about that woman or, you know, the woman, my brother's mom, or my brother. Like she she accepted him with open arms. And like it's like she just never bashed my dad in any kind of way or talked crazy about him at all.
SPEAKER_03Our moms have similar feminine, like, high-level energies. My mom, you know, my I have brothers, a bunch of brothers, I think, from my mom. And my mom was cool with their mom too.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03And she never talked crazy about them, them, accepted them like her sons. You know what I'm saying? And it was genuine. Not, you know, trying to, like, you know, the donors, but uh. Not, you know, trying to make it seem like you care about somebody else's child was true, truly genuine. Everything to do with that man got nothing to do with this woman or her children.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03I respect that. Mama Cherry were she was a real one. Um, but still. Um, so what did y'all go through that you feel like pushed y'all up pushed y'all apart?
SPEAKER_01Who me and ask? There was this one, what was you about to say?
SPEAKER_03And again, don't ask me.
SPEAKER_00I just personally feel like you used to be on the other side. To be on this if I'm gonna just sub it, sum it all up, and maybe you used to let them like get in your head. It wasn't even to me, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01That's your outlook. Mine is I was I felt stuck in the middle. Number one. That was my the biggest thing. And I think like that last fight or disagreement, discrepancy, everybody. I wasn't even a part of it, but I was made to be a part of it. Like it was just, yeah, I really I think that's what pushed us, like that was the final thing that pushed us in.
SPEAKER_00And I used to be offended because we our doorsteps, like we hung out together. We and I just used to feel like you should know me a little better than that. Like, you know. But I wasn't or like have my back and not be so neutral sometimes.
SPEAKER_01Right. I can uh take account for not having your back, but I never sat with them talking crazy about her. And I and she used to used to say that because I just she used to assume that.
SPEAKER_00And I would they they hate me so much that it's just like I couldn't even just see how I don't know. I can't explain it. Like I'm not even sure. You know, I know what your woman would and up, you know, but that was still assumption, though.
SPEAKER_03I never you had a connection with her versus.
SPEAKER_01I was never over there, like, yeah, agreeing with anything. I was literally neutral and just felt in the middle of all every single time there was some type of fight or discrepancy, but she always would make like put me in it, you know, to make me like make it seem like I was agreeing with them or and I never there was never a time that I was ever like over there bashing her because I because it's as even though I didn't truly know her the way I do now, uh half the stuff they were saying I knew wasn't true. So like why am I gonna sit there and be like saying it with them? You know what I'm saying? So none of that stuff was true. But yeah, it was just I feel like that last I don't even remember what year it was. Was Nori born? I probably I think probably was like 2017. I think she was a baby, like a baby. That was like the year that we stopped talking for like was it a year or two?
SPEAKER_02It was a minute, it was a minute.
SPEAKER_01It was like I know it was at least one year for sure. I'm not sure if it was two, but definitely one year, a whole year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it probably was like a whole year.
SPEAKER_03So, what did y'all do to mend it?
SPEAKER_00Like what y'all went through the I feel like I don't even I don't I don't I think when mom remember when Ma had fat Remember when she was going through all of that when she almost passed away? I'm like, you know how she I think you just called me one day, like after that. Yeah, I was about to say I'm the one who reached out to the city. You were just like, yo, no matter you always the one that's always there, and it just went from there, like but prior to like me reaching out to her, I had already was discerning and like tapping in, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Like to think about to willing being willing to rectify, like or seeing if it's worth it sometimes. Even if you still feel like it, that doesn't mean the other person is still gonna be, you know, not that right.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, I'll definitely but I but I feel like I well, I don't know, like then I just feel like the kids kept me around.
SPEAKER_03Like if they wasn't there for me, in a sense.
SPEAKER_00Okay for me, I don't know about her, but like that that really kept me around. Like if they wasn't there, I don't know. I don't even know if we I don't even know if I would have been willing to hear it. Like if you know what I'm saying? I can't say, but you know, I'm glad we did. I'm glad we did, but I just feel like they was kept me around. Like, you know, I'll be honest out of mine.
SPEAKER_01My children, I never stopped my children from having a relationship with her. She still had wanted a relationship with them and had the same relationship with them after me and her stopped talking.
SPEAKER_03That's all it's solid. So let me ask, what's the bravest thing you've seen one another do?
SPEAKER_00The the bravest, I'll go first, you could think. Because it's before I forget. I think be a mom. That shit scares me. Don't nothing scare me, not death, nothing. That scares me. So I'm gonna say a mom.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_03I think that's the bravest thing you've seen to be able to do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01For me, I have to say being able to triumph that feeling of dying after my brother was killed. Like being able to come back to who it was before that too, but it was even more like after that. Yeah, being able to come back to this after my brother was killed. Like, that was probably the bravest thing I witnessed her. Right. That's a fair. So she went from but like it was people down, right?
SPEAKER_00It was I had one foot in the grave damn near.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, with with that because their relationship was different. Right, right. And and it was a lot, and I watched her deteriorate, it looked like, you know, I was dying, lived 90s, I lived real, you know. And I'm just, yeah. Definitely brave the storm. For sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, my brother passing, that shit almost killed me too, man. Like uh, for like I cried for a week, I didn't do shit, I didn't go to work, I was just in the dark playing music every day. Just trying to figure out like how the fuck could that shit happen to him? Right, right. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like just he just wasn't even that type of guy. You know what I'm saying? I mean, not saying he was a slouch, but he just he really wasn't. He was a really outgoing, just you know what I'm saying? Type that if you going through something, like he would definitely be able to uh help you raise your vibes.
SPEAKER_01Uh that's the same way my brother was. Right. That's how we got killed.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Swear to God. Right.
SPEAKER_03Like, literally. Being nice to demons. So what's something your family normalized that you later realized was unusual?
SPEAKER_00I feel like damn being. Take it away. Shit. Everything was unusual to me.
SPEAKER_03Damn.
SPEAKER_00Like, I ain't even gonna lie. I feel like the beat ends that was abuse to me. And that was slavy. Like, I don't, I I feel like everything, a lot of the stuff, especially when it comes to like discipline and stuff.
SPEAKER_01One of the things I was gonna say without putting too much like of like the shit that actually happened in it, the I think it's abnormal to allow like aunts and uncles and anybody outside of you to discipline your other your children. Especially if they not involve with you like that. In the way, like corporal, like with corporal punishment, with verbal abuse, physical abuse, emotional, emotional abuse.
SPEAKER_00Especially if they ain't even acting and if people watch.
SPEAKER_03Right. They just popping up from the oh yeah, let me handle this talking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think that was one of the most abnormal, even though there was a lot.
SPEAKER_00It's a lot. A lot of shit was unusual.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. For sure.
SPEAKER_03No, it was like that. Um is there a conversation y'all feel like y'all are avoiding at this moment? At this very moment, is there a conversation y'all feel like y'all need to have that y'all? Like between us too avoiding to have, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, no.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. That's cool. Alright, so what do y'all what do you think y'all relationship will look like in 10 years?
SPEAKER_00I feel like it'd be even better. Like the kids gonna be older, like uh it's just gonna be different, but even more evolved, like you said.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because we're so you know, we're we're really close.
SPEAKER_03You're in tune, yeah. Y'all saying connection to each other now. So how would you like your sister to show up for you during difficult times?
SPEAKER_00Well, I feel like she tried, but I don't really be like allowing it. If that makes sense, because I always be because I be by myself so like I'm just so much introverted and I'm so used to just dealing with shit. Yeah, that I just be need I like I know that she there and she be trying, but I just be kind of like distant when that or like you know, like short answer stuff, or you know, I don't really be letting her.
SPEAKER_01And for me, I just just knowing, I just need to know that, you know, she's there, that she'll be there for me. Like, um, you know, just whatever I need in those moments, like maybe helping with the children, what she do. Like it ain't really nothing that I that she that she hasn't done if I've reached out to her when I when you're dealing with like a different thing. Which I do, like when I'm freaking snotting nose crying or something calling or shit. Or sometimes I'll randomly be like, you are right, or just being just knowing that like I can call on you, lean on you, lean on her, and she's always available.
SPEAKER_03So last but not least, before we get into these sibling questions, what's one thing you think each of you could do to strengthen your bond?
SPEAKER_00I don't feel like I feel like we are doing it. Like, you know, you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's what's up.
SPEAKER_00Like maybe like eight years ago, I was about to say it would have been communicate.
SPEAKER_01It would probably been it would probably have been talking more. Communication, right?
SPEAKER_00And being able to like say what we want to say without getting a without the other one getting offended or something like that.
SPEAKER_01And I think now we're we're we're there. I think we're there now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I I feel like we are. I don't, you know, we don't even be arguing. No. Even if one of us gets worse, I'm just be like, Yep. I don't even feed into it no more. Yeah, we've changed a lot now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Still, it's good to see y'all growth. I mean, I've actually haven't seen it, but I see, I mean, I do see the connection that you guys have. And just, you know, hearing, you know, the things that y'all went through definitely can definitely shows in real time that you guys have worked on your relationship.
SPEAKER_00And uh, this ain't fake, and it's definitely more like a spiritual connection, I feel like it's not forced, it's not because we just was door steps and was we got through we shared the same wound. Like it used to be like that.
unknownIt's not like that.
SPEAKER_03All right, so we're gonna get to these rapid questions. So you just answer authentically, either whoever is this or whoever is not that. All right, so who takes longer to get ready? Oh, I know.
SPEAKER_00I already know both of us up, right? No, I feel like it depends on what's going on, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Still no.
SPEAKER_00But I feel you know what, I'm good with time, so I'll say her. I'm good with time.
SPEAKER_01You agree with that? But if I gotta be somewhere at a certain time. I'd say most of the time it was probably it would probably be turned. I see, I know that.
SPEAKER_00But because I take three hours ahead to get myself prepared and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_03Who's more likely to get lost? Me.
SPEAKER_00Tanika.
SPEAKER_03I knew that too. Who's the better cook?
SPEAKER_00Oh, for real. So I'm gonna just say her, but I got I feel like I got things that I can make, you know.
SPEAKER_03But you just don't consistently cook. No. So I'm gonna just say her. That makes sense. Okay. Who was the troublemaker growing up?
SPEAKER_00Tanika.
SPEAKER_03I heard her say she felt like you were star shit.
SPEAKER_00Uh-uh. Troublemaker what you not between us, just like other people, you would. Like I'm saying we was little, little like younger teenagers, the picking on come on now. Picking on phones. I did do that. I did do that, but and then when I used to fight, it wasn't even my bad.
SPEAKER_03Who's most likely to cry at a movie?
SPEAKER_00Me. Both of us now, probably, but me. I everything touches my heart.
SPEAKER_03Who's most likely to call mom for advice?
SPEAKER_00Um, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I don't know how or at a point in time ever?
SPEAKER_00I have. I have before. I probably have.
SPEAKER_01Maybe that's the equal thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay. Who would survive longer on a deserted island?
SPEAKER_00Me. Probably her.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because the fogs and all that. Yeah, we're not doing it.
SPEAKER_00That's why I haven't even went camping yet.
SPEAKER_03That's why I'm me.
SPEAKER_00That's how we're saying it today.
SPEAKER_03Who's the early bird and who's the night owl?
SPEAKER_00I'm an early bird. Sometimes I can be a night owl, but she's a night owl now because she works at night.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Who's funnier?
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I think we're equally funny. I'm funny. People don't know funny. Yeah, people don't know. She's funny. I think it's equal.
SPEAKER_03Alright, last but not least, who handles conflict better? I think I do.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I feel like it depends on at what moment in time.
SPEAKER_03Conflict is not an issue. Generally, conflict is I don't know if we're gonna be happy. I feel like me then if you maybe that way, if you broaden it. Conflict is just being undecisive. You get so to speak.
SPEAKER_00But I'm doing better with that.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I'm doing better. Just take your breath. But yeah, if you think about it in a broad spectrum, then my yeah, but if it comes to like turning up or something like that.
SPEAKER_03All right, that concludes the sisterhood in the past. This was one for having these two wonderful queens and sisters in here. So let's talk about some core values of sisterhood, which is one, a safe space, a place where you can share your true self without fear or being judged or put down. Two, mutual support, lifting each other up through hard times and celebrating wins together. Three, loyalty, choosing to love, respect, and stand by one another with honesty and care.
